FAQs & What to Expect
This is my first massage. What can I expect?
Welcome! The day of your appointment, please drink plenty of water to ensure proper hydration. Before we begin your massage, we will discuss your specific needs, goals, or concerns. Then, I will leave the room while you make yourself comfortable on the massage table.
For your massage, you will undress to your comfort level and then slip between the sheets on the table. You will be appropriately draped at all times - which means you will be covered by a sheet or blanket, and only the area being worked on will be uncovered at the time.
What should I be doing during my massage?
Glad you asked! During your massage session, your only jobs are to focus on your breath, and actively seek relaxation. Monkey-mind happens to us all, but I encourage you to try and calm your mind and slow your thought processes during your bodywork session. If you find yourself having difficulty with this, you may want to visualize sending your breath to the area of your body where the work is being done. Try practicing breathing gently & deeply to help induce relaxation and release muscle tension.
Some people like to talk while receiving massage. Some prefer to relax and not engage in conversation. Whichever you prefer, I will follow your lead. There may be times during your massage where I will stretch or move your body; try to avoid helping with these movements unless requested, as the movements will be most beneficial if your body is completely relaxed.
Something is not quite right. Should I say something?
Absolutely. This is your time. While I may know about massage, you are the expert on you. Your requests and feedback are always appreciated. Everything from the music selection and volume to the temperature or the angle of the face cradle is adjustable. I will never be offended if you have a request or suggestion. Please note: while lying face down, you may experience congestion due to pressure on your sinuses from the face cradle. I have a super comfy face cradle cushion that is designed to alleviate a lot of that pressure, and also have tissues, but I'm more than happy to find a more comfortable position for you and your sinuses if needed.
Oops, I'm running late! What happens now?
We may need to shorten the duration of your massage in consideration for clients whose appointments follow yours. Depending on how late you are, we will determine if there is enough time remaining to start a session. Regardless of length, you will be responsible for the cost of the full session. If you are able, please call or text me at 801-948-0660 when you are running late.
Ack, I need to cancel. Will I be charged?
To avoid being charged for the full amount of your session, please give 24 hours’ notice. Less than 24 hours notice will result in a charge of 50% of the service charge. Simply not showing up for your appointment will result in being charged the full service price. In the event of a last minute cancellation or no show, we will email you an invoice that can be easily paid online.
How will I feel after my massage?
It is fairly normal to feel a bit spacey and relaxed after a bodywork session. Your body may feel lighter; breathing and movement may feel easier (enjoy!) I'll leave you alone for a few minutes to reflect on how your body feels, gently stretch, and get dressed. When you're ready, crack the door open, and we'll chat briefly about post session care specific to your needs.
Some general guidelines for post session care:
Rest. Hydrate. Integrate. After your session (and always), drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Avoid strenuous activity, relax and allow your body time to integrate the work. You may experience some soreness in the day or two after your session, especially if you don’t receive regular bodywork. Please get in touch if you have any questions or concerns regarding your treatment.
What forms of payment are acceptable?
I accept payment in many forms - cash, check, credit card, or Spa Finder gift cards. You can prepay for any of your sessions by calling ahead or booking online at massagebook.com and choosing the prepay option.
Is it appropriate to tip or not tip?
Gratuities are always appreciated, but never required :)
